This kit includes cutting guides and new panels to allow easier modification of the heater box which is needed to fit a full sized Double DIN radio into the dashboard. This head unit fitting kit includes. Antenna adapter cable (21-106). Male Fakra to Male DIN antenna adapter cable. This cable adapts from a Farka antenna connection at the back of the cars original radio to a standard aftermarket DIN antenna connection to allow the fitting of an aftermarket radio upgrade. This is a passive adapter cable, not suitable for cars that need a phantom power supply to turn on the antenna amplifier. Steering wheel control interface (29-627). Steering wheel control interface and adapter cable for various BMW cars to fit an aftermarket radio upgrade. The cable adapts from the 17 Round Pin connector in the car to standard ISO aftermarket ISO connectors. This replaces the need for a separate ISO radio replacement adapter cable. The CANbus steering wheel control interface is built in to the adapter cable for a plug and play installation. This interface will allow the original audio control buttons on the steering wheel to work with the new aftermarket radio. Universal SWC patch lead (29-025). Universal patch lead to be used with In car Tec 29- series steering wheel control interfaces. This cable plugs into the 29-Series control box and connects to the 3.5mm socket or single wire on the back of the new head-unit. If fitting a radio with a high level Single DIN chassis (Such as a Sony XAV-AX3250DB) then this kit allows fitting with no heater box modifications needed. If changing an original non-navigation radio, modifications need to be made to the centre console to relocate the heater controls. Suitable for Saloon (sedan), Touring, Convertible, Coupe and Compact (Hatchback) body styles of the BMW E46 3-Series. PLEASE NOTE: Modification is required to fit a head unit with a Double DIN chassis. We recommend this is done by a skilled car audio technician! Modification to the heater box can be avoided by fitting a radio with a compact/ single DIN rear chassis at the top the radio, such as the SONY XAV-AX3250DB shown below. A phantom power feed is a 12v power supply that is sent up the centre wire of the antenna cable, this powers the amplifier built into the original antenna. The antenna adapter cable has a loose wire which needs to be connected to the 12v antenna power output of the new aftermarket stereo. The phantom power feed terminates in a male bullet connector to make the phantom power lead easier to connect to ISO cables and steering wheel control interfaces with a female bullet connection for the electric antenna turn on. Earlier models had more buttons on the panel down by the gear stick, a button panel from an earlier model car is required. The button panel from the earlier car pictured to the left will be needed for the newer car pictured to the right. This is used to relocate the original hazard and passenger airbag buttons when fitting an aftermarket head unit.
